Strong relationships with families are built on successful communication. Families will communicate their needs to you, and in turn, you can communicate what resources and supports are available. When sharing POLL strategies and communications with families, having a dedicated display area in your learning setting will help adults feel involved and able to access information easily.

POLL Communication Board – Types of Information
  • Displays: Easily accessible and visible to adults as they enter your learning setting.

 

  • Language Learning Activities: Display weekly POLL themes/projects. Include Anchor Texts and Experiences, key vocabulary, Intentional Messages, and Songs and Chants.

 

  • Projects: Display a project you are working on as a group or provide a status update.

 

  • Photos: Share photos (with permission) of children and families during special events.

 

  • Engagement Opportunities: Announce volunteer opportunities, special events, and ideas for families to extend learning at home. 

 

  • Additional Information: Share relevant information on child development, health and wellness, and community resources.
Considerations as you create a POLL Communication Board for your learning setting:
  • Refer to your Family Languages and Interests Interviews to… 
    • Ensure the languages and cultures of your families are reflected in the communications.
    • Announce planned activities that are based on the interests of the children.
  • Rotate your display as your themes, activities, and offerings change. 
  • Use the POLL Communication Board as a conversation starter between parents and children. It can be an important tool to guide parents on what questions to ask their child so they can hear all about their day.
